Adenoidectomy

An adenoidectomy is a surgical procedure to remove your child's adenoid glands. Adenoids are small pieces of tissue located behind the nose in the upper respiratory tract. Adenoids are considered vestigial in adults. Adenoids are part of your child's immune system. They fight germs that are breathed in, such as viruses and bacteria. Adenoids usually shrink and disappear by the time most children reach age 13.
